Free and open source vs $4.99

MeetingBar costs nothing and its source code is public under the Apache 2.0 license. If price is what matters most, or you like being able to read the code, it is hard to beat. SupaNext is $4.99 once for three Macs. After its 7-day trial, the countdown, the menu of today's meetings and Join keep working for free; only the pre-meeting panel needs a license.

Where MeetingBar does more

MeetingBar supports more than 50 meeting services, can connect to Google Calendar without going through the Calendar app, lets you bookmark recurring meetings, and can create an ad-hoc meeting from your preferred service. SupaNext covers Zoom, Google Meet, Teams, Webex and FaceTime, reads only the calendars in the Calendar app, and never writes to your calendar.

How SupaNext works

The menu bar shows a countdown like “Standup · 12m”. Click it for today's remaining meetings, each with its own Join; after six, tomorrow's first meetings show up too. A minute before a meeting, a small panel appears with Join, Snooze and Dismiss. It never takes your keyboard and goes away on its own once you've joined. Zoom and Teams links open the native app when it's installed, and links hidden in a meeting's notes or location are found too. You choose which calendars count, the lead time, the panel's corner, and an optional Join shortcut.

Privacy

SupaNext reads your events on your Mac through Apple's Calendar, with no separate sign-in and no OAuth, and never uploads anything. MeetingBar's website lists “No user data storing” among its features.
